Antiques and Vintage Finds

I have always appreciated antiques. The appreciation came from my father. My sister and I would accompany him to yard sales and flea markets. He loved everything old. Little did we know that we were developing a love that would last a lifetime. My heart beats fast when I see a yard sale or if I hear about an antique market close by. The fun of the hunt. Not knowing what you will find. Our home is filled with vintage finds and we will be adding vintage finds to our shop and online shop. We love mixing old with new. Our Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic sofas sit in front of a vintage bird cage we use as a coffee table. Bella Notte bedding on my parents vintage bed. Every single room has a mix of old and new. Our first shop was a wonderful vintage shop on the New Jersey shore. We had a great time filling that store with vintage treasures.
The new book Vintage Vavoom is written by the editors of Romantic Homes Magazine. It is a must have. The editors show us that we can mix vintage items with new indulgences. We sold out the first day they arrived and more are coming in this week.

We are happy to offer several furniture lines that are made as well as antiques. The manufacturers proudly make each piece by hand out of solid wood with hand painted finishes. The pieces are solid and heavy not fake wood with plastic coating. The cottage furniture we offer will be tomorrows antiques. We just added Newport Cottages a fun line of furniture for children with pieces for adults as well. Bella Notte Linens is made with the attention to details and excellent quality of the vintage linens I grew up with. Each piece will be a treasured heirloom. At Lavender Fields we are proud to offer quality furniture, decor, bedding and accessories. Items you can cherish for years to come.

Make your home cozy with some great vintage treasures mixed in with the new.

Have a wonderful Valentines Day.

Visions of sugar plums danced in their heads

The holiday season is a busy one here in Port Jefferson Village. Our famous Dickens Festival was last weekend and we were busy decorating to prepare for a wonderful weekend.

This year we were honored to decorate the 1st National Bank building which is on the National Historic Register.

For the store, we decided a white tree was a must. We also selected Pine Cone Hill Velvet Bedding in Snow and Hollyberry. We finished the bed with sparkling Bijou pillows.

We also selected the new Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic Limited Edition Wallpaper Damask Bedding. A favorite this season.

Wishing you a wonderful holiday season

Thanksgiving

There are so many things we are thankful for. We try to take the time to appreciate our many blessings everyday and not just at Thanksgiving. George, Terri and I take rides in the morning before we go to the store and just appreciate where we live. The changing of the leaves are so amazing right now we just stop the car and appreciate the beauty. Terri loves to hike and especially this season. She runs in the brisk weather chasing leaves. As we walked yesterday we talked about all the many things we are thankful for:

  • Our wonderful business
  • Our beautiful house
  • The smile our Scottish Terrier - Terri puts on our face everyday
  • The way our cats greet us every evening
  • Talking to our customers and meeting new friends
  • Having dinner with great friends
  • Being surrounded by beautiful things
  • Being healthy and able to work
  • Watching our dreams come true
  • Being invited in to see beautiful homes whether in person or by photographs
  • Living in a beautiful village

Thank you for another great season.

Blessings to you and your family

The Warmth of Fall

Fall is my favorite season. Maybe it is the changing of the leaves or the brisk weather or the cozy nights that makes me want to redecorate. I love the colors of fall - the soft browns, vibrant reds and warm yellows. I need to bring them into my home and into the shop. This fall the shops Potluck Studios Plank Table is vibrantly decorated with Potluck Studios custom pottery in amber and sunflower. The table is filled with pumpkins and gourds and complete with a Trumpet Vase in butter. Bella Notte Linens fall colors have arrived and Fawn and Spice are an all time favorite. Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic fall collections have arrived and the Vintage Charm and Somerset are quickly selling out. The Union Jack throw and pillow are a must have this season.

At home our table is filled with heirloom pumpkins and sparkly signs welcome halloween. Our throws are taken out of storage and the cats quickly find a new napping place. Our kitchen is warmly scented with our favorite Aunt Sadies harvest candles. Our front door will soon be adorned with a harvest wreath and our porch filled with pumpkins ready to welcome trick-or- treaters. As the leaves on our Japanese Maple turn red we are thankful for another beautiful year in our home. Terri (our scottish terrier) loves running through the falling leaves and chasing the squirrels while they gather their nuts.

Happy Harvest to you and your family.

Does your house talk to you and your guests?

We just returned from an evening with a friend. It was the first time we had dinner at her house. When we arrived she took us on a tour and we found it amazing that each room, each detail told a story about her life. A painting from a street vendor in Italy, pottery that she treasures from a potter that is no longer in business, a portrait of her husband painted by her daughter when she was a teenager and I can go on. As she walked us through her home and told us stories that delighted us we felt so welcome. Not only did we get to enjoy dinner with a friend but we also were able to get a glimpse into her past and present life.

As we rode home I thought of the details in my home and how each detail tells a story. Does your home talk to you and your guests? Can you look at something in your house that will bring back a happy memory and tell a story that you never would like to forget. A home should be filled with things you treasure. Every detail you put into your home should make you proud. Sometimes new things can bring back a special memory - a quilt that looks like the quilt from your childhood, a rug that looks like the rug from your grandmothers house or maybe a painting by an artist from a town you vacationed in. What items in your home make you happy?
